Energy subsidies in the canton of Geneva in 2026

From 1 February 2026 Geneva applies a new GEnergie subsidy scale backed by CHF 80 million. Solar remains federal (Pronovo), topped up by the premiums of the utility SIG. Here are the verified amounts and the right timing for each application.

What the GEnergie 2026 scale pays in Geneva1

Thermal insulation, U ≤ 0.20 W/m²K after works — measure M-01

CHF140/m²

Air-to-water heat pump (M-05) — base, + CHF 400 per kW

CHF3'000

Geothermal heat pump (M-06) — base, + CHF 800 per kW

CHF3'000

Solar: Pronovo, topped up by SIG premiums

The cantonal GEnergie 2026 scale contains no solar measure: the base support remains the federal one-time grant from Pronovo, applied for after commissioning for installations below 100 kWp.

  • SIG solar premium2: 25% of the federal grant for installations below 30 kWp (15% from 30 to 100 kWp) — a premium from the utility SIG, not a cantonal subsidy.
  • SIG battery premium: CHF 130 per kWh of storage (up to 15 kWh), tied to a solar installation commissioned and Pronovo-certified after 1 January 2026.

We size the installation, file the Pronovo application at the right moment and price the SIG premiums into the quote. Discover our solar offer.

Heat pump: CHF 3'000 base plus power

The GEnergie 2026 scale supports replacing an oil, natural-gas or fixed electric heating system1:

  • Air-to-water (M-05): CHF 3'000 + CHF 400 per kW — example for 10 kW: CHF 7'000 by formula. CHF 1'000 bonus for a certified heat meter.
  • Geothermal or water-source (M-06): CHF 3'000 + CHF 800 per kW, same meter bonus.

Key conditions: heat-pump system module required below 15 kW, subsidised power capped at 50 W/m², building outside the structuring district-heating zones (or with a derogation), subsidy limited to 50% of costs. The application must reach the OCEN at least 14 days before works start.

Insulation: CHF 140/m², the most generous rate in the region

Geneva's measure M-01 pays1:

Facade, roof, walls and floor — U < 0.20 W/m²K after worksCHF 140/m²
Buried walls and floors deeper than 2 m — U < 0.25 W/m²KCHF 80/m²
Bonus for integrated solar collectors on a protected building+ CHF 40/m²

Conditions: building permit before 2000, U-value improved by at least 0.07 W/m²K, CECB Plus required from CHF 10'000 of aid, not cumulative with measures M-10 to M-13. Discover our insulation solutions.

Your subsidy application in 4 steps

Eligibility and estimate

We identify the applicable federal, cantonal and municipal subsidies — clearly separating confirmed amounts from estimates.

Technical visit

A technician checks the building, power sizing, surfaces and the documents your application needs.

Filing at the right moment

Before works for cantonal measures, after commissioning for the Pronovo one-time federal grant.

Follow-up until payout

Invoices, certificates, completion notice: we follow the file until the money is actually paid.

Two extras worth remembering

Municipal subsidies

Several municipalities in the canton — including Genève, Carouge, Lancy, Meyrin — grant additional energy or renovation aid. Amounts, deadlines and budgets vary: get written confirmation from the municipality before counting this aid in your financing. We check your municipality before the quote.

Tax deductions

Energy-saving works are generally tax-deductible for private owners — but only the share you actually pay after subsidies counts. Confirm the details with the cantonal tax administration; we provide the supporting documents.

Geneva subsidies 2026: the essential answers

Does Geneva subsidise solar panels directly?

No — the 2026 cantonal scale contains no solar measure. The base support is the federal Pronovo one-time grant, plus the solar premium of the utility SIG: 25% of the grant for installations below 30 kWp.

Should the application be filed before or after the works?

For the GEnergie scale, the application must be received by the OCEN at least 14 days before works start; works must then be completed within 24 months. For solar, the Pronovo application is filed after commissioning.

Is a storage battery subsidised in Geneva?

Not by the canton. SIG however pays a battery premium of CHF 130 per kWh of storage (up to 15 kWh), tied to a solar installation Pronovo-certified after 1 January 2026 — see our storage solutions.

Is a heat pump in a new build subsidised?

No. Measures M-05 and M-06 only apply to replacing an existing oil, natural-gas or fixed electric heating system. Replacing an old heat pump with a new one is not subsidised either.

Is there a cap on Geneva subsidies?

Yes: the subsidy never exceeds 50% of the works cost, with a minimum of CHF 1'000 per project. Grants are awarded within the annual budget (CHF 80 million in 2026), first come, first served.

Can Abelarti handle the application for me?

Yes. We check eligibility, prepare the documents, file or accompany the application, then follow the completion paperwork through to payment. It is part of our service — talk to an advisor.
