The choice of material
Why we only use swisspor insulation
In French-speaking Switzerland, a significant share of the energy used for heating escapes through thermal bridges — roof, exterior walls, foundations. Professional insulation reduces the heating bill measurably from the very first season, with a cumulative effect over the building's lifetime.
Our supplier is swisspor, a Swiss company based in Châtel-St-Denis, in the neighbouring canton of Fribourg. Their EPS and XPS panels are Minergie-ECO certified — the most demanding standard in Swiss eco-construction, and often a condition for obtaining the highest cantonal subsidies.
For us, using insulation manufactured in French-speaking Switzerland is not a marketing argument — it's a matter of consistency. We install here, with materials made here, for buildings here.
Our approach
A solution tailored to your building, not a product pushed on you
Abelarti selects the right material for each area of your project — roof, walls, foundations, façade — according to thermal, mechanical and regulatory requirements.
Thermal assessment
Analysis of your building, identification of thermal bridges, thermography if needed before any proposal.
swisspor only
Swiss insulation manufactured in Châtel-St-Denis (FR), Minergie-ECO certified, installed by our local teams.
Subsidies costed out
Cantonal Buildings Programme, Minergie bonus, tax deduction : we identify and cost out every available grant.
A single point of contact
From assessment to compliance check : one Abelarti adviser follows your project, with no rotating subcontractors.
Our swisspor range
Three insulation materials, three uses
The choice of material depends on the application — roof, wall, rendered façade, perimeter insulation. We select the right panel for each area of your project.
PERFORMANCE & DURABILITY
A thermal envelope
that lasts decades.
swisspor insulation — manufactured in Châtel-St-Denis (Fribourg) — combines measurable thermal performance, durability and compliance with the most demanding Swiss standards.
Moisture & compression
XPS 300 GE
Extruded polystyrene with a closed-cell structure : resistant to moisture and freeze-thaw cycles. High compressive strength (≥ 200 kPa). Ideal for areas where the insulation is subject to loads or moisture — perimeter insulation, under-slab, cavity walls, plinth insulation.
- Conductivity λ
- 0.033 – 0.035 W/(m·K)
- Thickness
- 10 to 360 mm
- Compression
- ≥ 200 kPa
- Water absorption
- ≤ 5 Vol-%
ETICS façade
EPS 20 Façade
Expanded polystyrene designed for external thermal insulation systems with a rendered finish (ETICS). Open to vapour diffusion, which prevents moisture build-up. Lightweight and easy to work with. The economical choice for renovating a façade without losing living space.
- Conductivity λ
- 0.036 W/(m·K)
- Thickness
- 20 to 400 mm
- Tensile strength
- ≥ 100 kPa
- Application
- Rendered ETICS

Insulation subsidies 2026
Cantonal Buildings Programme and local grants
Thermal insulation is supported by the Confederation's Buildings Programme and by complementary cantonal programmes. Grants vary depending on your canton, the type of building, the insulated area and the level of performance achieved (notably for Minergie renovations).

Frequently asked questions
What our clients ask us
What insulation thickness do I need?
It depends on the area (roof, wall, floor) and the objective (Minergie standard, simple compliance). In general: 14-20 cm for a roof in French-speaking Switzerland, 12-16 cm for an external wall. We calculate the optimal thickness during the diagnosis.
How much does roof insulation cost?
The cost varies depending on the surface area, accessibility, material and method. For a typical residential roof, expect an indicative range of CHF 120 to CHF 280 per m² including installation — before cantonal subsidies. Our study prices your specific case.
How long does the installation take?
For a single-family home: 2 to 5 days for a roof, 5 to 10 days for a complete ETI façade. The works are planned to limit disruption.
Why the Minergie-ECO standard?
Minergie-ECO is the most demanding Swiss standard for eco-construction. It guarantees energy performance, healthy indoor quality (low VOC emissions) and reduced environmental impact. It is also often a condition for obtaining the highest cantonal subsidies.
EPS, XPS or LAMBDA — how to choose?
EPS (expanded polystyrene): light, affordable, ideal for rendered façades. XPS (extruded polystyrene): denser, moisture-resistant, ideal for high-stress areas. LAMBDA Universel 031: graphite-enhanced EPS, optimal conductivity, versatile. We select the material according to the area of your project.
Insulate from the inside or the outside?
Both are possible. External insulation (ETI) is the most efficient and preserves the living space, but it requires a façade refurbishment. Internal insulation is less intrusive but slightly reduces the interior surface area. We analyse your building to recommend the best option.
How much will I save on my heating bill?
Professional insulation reduces heat loss in a measurable way, with a variable effect depending on the initial condition of the building and the target level reached. Renovations achieving the Minergie label are the most efficient. Our diagnosis estimates the savings potential for your case.
Are there subsidies that can be combined with other works?
Yes. Comprehensive energy renovations (insulation + heat pump + solar) often benefit from additional bonuses (Minergie, fossil-fuel phase-out). We price the most advantageous combinations in a single study.
What is the lifespan of insulation?
Properly installed swisspor insulation retains its thermal performance for several decades. EPS and XPS panels are dimensionally stable and resist settling.
