Produce your own electricity at a predictable price for 25 to 30 years

Between 2020 and 2026, residential electricity prices in Switzerland rose by more than 30%. Projections for 2027 and beyond point in the same direction.

A well-sized residential photovoltaic installation can cover a large part of your consumption and, with a battery, further increase your self-consumption. Profitability depends on your roof, your consumption profile and the subsidies available in your canton — which is precisely what our free assessment quantifies for you.

What our clients ask us

What is the price of a solar panel installation in French-speaking Switzerland?

The price depends on the size of the installation, the type of roof, the complexity of the installation and the equipment chosen. For a single-family home, the gross investment usually falls within a broad range that we specify in our free study, after examining your roof. The federal, cantonal and municipal subsidies then reduce this net investment.

What subsidies are available for solar panels?

Every residential photovoltaic installation in Switzerland benefits from the federal Pronovo subsidy. Depending on your canton and municipality, additional support may be added. The amounts vary depending on the power of the installation, the type of project and the canton. Our study prices the three layers of support applicable to your case.

How many solar panels does a house need?

The number depends on your annual consumption, the usable surface area of your roof, its orientation and your self-consumption objective. A typical single-family home in French-speaking Switzerland is equipped with an installation of between 6 and 12 kWp. The precise sizing is part of the free study.

How long does the installation take?

The physical on-site installation generally takes 1 to 3 days for a single-family home. The administrative procedures (permits, subsidy application, grid connection) can add a few additional weeks — Abelarti manages the entire process.

Are solar panels profitable in Switzerland?

Profitability depends on your consumption profile, your distributor's electricity tariff, the available subsidies and whether or not there is a battery. With the continued rise in residential tariffs and the current subsidies, the payback period usually falls between 7 and 15 years for a single-family home in French-speaking Switzerland.

Can I add a solar battery?

Yes. Without a battery, self-consumption generally sits between 30 and 40%. With a properly sized battery, it often exceeds 60 to 80%, which reduces your dependence on the grid and stabilises your electricity cost. The relevance of a battery depends on your consumption profile — we assess it in the study.

Do solar panels work in winter?

Yes. The panels produce with any light, including diffuse light or in overcast weather. Winter production is lower than in summer, but remains significant. Snow slides off tilted panels, and the modules withstand heavy loads (up to 5,400 Pa for the modules we install).

Does Abelarti take care of the administrative procedures?

Yes. We manage all the municipal permits, the federal Pronovo subsidy application, any cantonal and municipal applications, and the connection with your electricity distributor. You sign, we handle the paperwork.

What is the lifespan of photovoltaic panels?

The panels we install offer up to 30 years of product warranty and power warranty, with controlled degradation. In practice, the installation continues to produce beyond that, with a gradually declining yield — modern panels remain largely productive after 30 years.

Can I sell my surplus electricity?

Yes. Any unconsumed surplus is automatically fed back into the grid and remunerated at your distributor's feed-in tariff. The tariffs vary among distributors in French-speaking Switzerland. This remuneration is added to the savings on your electricity bill.

Do I need a permit to install solar panels?

For most single-family homes in French-speaking Switzerland, the installation is subject to a simple notification to the municipality rather than a full building permit. The rules vary depending on the canton, the municipality and the nature of the building (protected zone, historic monument, etc.). Abelarti checks the framework applicable to your address.

What is the difference between a solar panel and a photovoltaic panel?

In everyday language, “solar panel” often refers to photovoltaic panels (which produce electricity). There are also solar thermal panels, which produce heat for domestic hot water or heating. On this page, we are referring to photovoltaic panels — the ones that generate your home's electricity.
