Energy subsidies in the canton of Bern in 2026

Bern works differently: generous flat grants for heat pumps, no aid for insulating single elements — but a global renovation rewarded with up to CHF 160/m². Our teams serve the French-speaking Bernese Jura. Amounts verified against the official March 2026 guide.

Solar: the Pronovo one-time grant

Canton Bern pays no cantonal aid for residential solar: support comes from the Confederation, via the one-time grant administered by Pronovo, claimed after commissioning for installations below 100 kWp2.

Some municipalities or utilities (BKW for example) offer local top-ups — we check your municipality before the quote. Discover our solar offer.

Heat pump: CHF 6'000 or 10'000 flat

The official Bern guide (March 2026 edition) sets, when replacing a duly authorised electric, oil or gas heating system1:

  • Air-to-water: CHF 6'000 up to 15 kW — the typical single-family case; CHF 4'500 + CHF 100/kW above.
  • Ground- or water-source: CHF 10'000 up to 15 kW; CHF 4'800 + CHF 360/kW above.
  • First hydronic distribution system: a CHF 15'000 supplement (ERA below 250 m²) — precious when replacing direct electric radiators.

Key conditions: subsidy capped at 35% of eligible costs; power counted at 50 W/m² maximum; old boiler fully dismantled; heat-pump system module up to 15 kW (certificate paid by the canton); CECB required after works. Applications filed after works start are inadmissible.

Insulation: Bern rewards global renovation

Bern particularity: since 2021 the canton no longer pays per-m² aid for single insulated elements. Insulation is supported within a global renovation1:

CECB renovation, jump of 2 classes (single-family home)CHF 70/m² ERA
Jump of 4 classesCHF 110/m² ERA
Jump of 6 classesCHF 160/m² ERA
Envelope bonus: final class A / B / C+ CHF 90 / 70 / 50 per m² ERA
Minergie / Minergie-P / Minergie-A renovationCHF 160 / 180 / 200 per m² ERA

Conditions: permit before 2000 and no oil, gas or electric heating left after the renovation. A well-planned envelope strategy can thus pay more than a classic per-m² scale. Discover our insulation solutions.

Your subsidy application in 4 steps

Eligibility and estimate

We identify the applicable federal, cantonal and municipal subsidies — clearly separating confirmed amounts from estimates.

Technical visit

A technician checks the building, power sizing, surfaces and the documents your application needs.

Filing at the right moment

Before works for cantonal measures, after commissioning for the Pronovo one-time federal grant.

Follow-up until payout

Invoices, certificates, completion notice: we follow the file until the money is actually paid.

Two extras worth remembering

Municipal subsidies

Several municipalities in the canton — including Moutier, Saint-Imier, La Neuveville, Tavannes — grant additional energy or renovation aid. Amounts, deadlines and budgets vary: get written confirmation from the municipality before counting this aid in your financing. We check your municipality before the quote.

Tax deductions

Energy-saving works are generally tax-deductible for private owners — but only the share you actually pay after subsidies counts. Confirm the details with the cantonal tax administration; we provide the supporting documents.

Bern subsidies 2026: the essential answers

Does Bern subsidise solar panels directly?

No — residential solar support comes from the Confederation via Pronovo (one-time grant, after commissioning). Third-party claims of a Bern cantonal per-kWp aid match no official source.

Should the application be filed before or after the works?

Before, without exception: "applications filed afterwards are inadmissible", states the official guide. Once granted, the subsidy guarantee is valid for four years.

Can I get aid for insulating only my facade?

Not in Bern: the canton stopped funding single insulated elements in 2021. Support goes through the global renovation — CECB class jump or Minergie certification — with per-m² amounts that can beat classic scales.

Is a storage battery subsidised in Bern?

No, the 2026 cantonal catalogue has no battery measure. The battery belongs to the overall solar project — see our storage solutions.

Who is the heat-distribution supplement for?

For buildings heated by direct electric radiators or decentralised stoves without a water circuit: creating the first hydronic network powered by a heat pump is supported with CHF 15'000 (ERA below 250 m²) — on top of the heat-pump flat grant.

Can Abelarti handle the application for me?

Yes. We check eligibility, prepare the documents, file or accompany the application, then follow the completion paperwork through to payment. It is part of our service — talk to an advisor.
